Breast and Other Types of Cancer
Chemicals linked to breast cancer are found in products on store shelves across the U.S. The Environmental Working Group found the carcinogen 1,4-dioxane in 40% of all personal care products studied. The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) found the same chemical in more than 23% of products labeled “natural.”
Chemicals found in personal care products have been shown in studies to mimic estrogen and may be linked to cancer. During vulnerable lifespan stages such as infancy and puberty breast cells are rapidly growing and sensitive to toxic exposures. Early life exposure may cause breast cancer in adult years.
Researchers identified almost 300 chemicals in everything from hair dyes, sunscreens, moisturizers, perfume and nail polish to pesticides that increase levels of breast cancer-contributing hormones.
